This was an assignment for my Drawing II class this semester. We had to go to a space off-campus, do some visual research, and then create a monochromatic piece based off of the space. I chose the street right off of campus by the art building. I focused a lot on the architecture and wanted to show a juxtaposition of my positive first impression of the space versus its negative reputation (shown in the first version). However, the architecture that had drawn me to the space was lost in the first version, so I edited my drawing to show it more clearly. The final piece's colors are adjusted for print so they would be closer to the reddish-orange color I wanted; the print of the first version was too red and too dark.
